Never was a mine more aptly named than the old Adventure Copper Mine, located astride the Copper Range at the base of the Keweenaw Peninsula in Ontonagon County, Michigan.
Don a hard hat for a short walk to the mine entrance; then with your own light, follow your guide 300 feet underground walking through passages worked by miners over 100 years ago.
Marvel at the large masses of pure native copper (with silver inclusions) are surrounded by quartz and calcite crystals, epidote and other minerals still in in the rock walls. Look down into open mine shafts that plunge hundreds of feet into the earth. Halfway through the tour emerge from the dark depths of the mine onto an overlook high in Adventure Bluff for a magnificent view of distant hills and valleys.
